Frequently Asked Questions About WorkCover Support

How do I access support?

To access psychology services under WorkCover, you will generally need:

  1. An accepted WorkCover claim.
  2. A referral from your GP, treating medical practitioner, or approved provider.
  3. Approval for psychological treatment where required.

If you are unsure about the process, feel free to contact me and I can help clarify what documentation may be needed before your first appointment.

Can I access psychology sessions if my WorkCover claim has been accepted?

If your WorkCover claim has been accepted and psychological treatment has been approved, your sessions may be covered by WorkCover. It is important to confirm approval with your insurer before commencing treatment.

Do I need a referral to see a psychologist under WorkCover?

In most cases, you will need a referral from your GP, treating medical practitioner, or another approved healthcare provider. Your referral helps ensure your psychological treatment is connected to your WorkCover claim and recovery plan.

What can I talk about in therapy?

Therapy can help with a range of concerns related to workplace injury or psychological stress, including:

  • Anxiety and excessive worry
  • Workplace stress
  • Trauma or traumatic workplace incidents
  • Burnout and exhaustion
  • Adjustment to injury or illness
  • Loss of confidence
  • Difficult workplace relationships
  • Emotional impacts of returning to work

Will what I say in therapy remain confidential?

Your privacy is important. Therapy is confidential, although some information may need to be shared with your treating team, insurer, or employer as part of the WorkCover process. Any communication is likely to be limited to information relevant to your treatment and recovery.

How can therapy help with returning to work?

Returning to work after an injury, illness, or psychological stress can feel overwhelming. Therapy can help you build coping strategies, manage anxiety, rebuild confidence, navigate workplace challenges, and support a gradual and sustainable return to work.

Do you provide reports to WorkCover insurers?

Where required, I may provide reports that outline treatment goals, progress, recommendations, and capacity to engage in work-related activities. These reports are focused on supporting your recovery and meeting WorkCover requirements.

Do you offer telehealth appointments?

Yes. Telehealth appointments are available for eligible WorkCover clients, allowing you to access support from the comfort of your home where appropriate and approved.

What are your fees for WorkCover clients?

My fee for a 50-minute psychology session is $250.

WorkSafe Victoria may contribute towards the cost of approved psychological treatment; however, I charge above the WorkSafe scheduled fee, which means an out-of-pocket fee (gap payment) will apply.

How much is the gap fee?

My fee is $250 per 50-minute session.

WorkSafe Victoria currently reimburses $203.91 for approved psychological treatment, leaving a gap fee of $46.09 payable by the client.

NOTE:  The current WorkSafe Victoria scheduled fee may change over time. I will provide information about these changes as they occur.

How does payment work?

Payment is required at the end of each session.

If your treatment has been approved under WorkCover, you will be required to pay the gap fee.

I bill the insurer directly for the WorkSafe-funded portion of the fee. You are only responsible for paying the gap fee.

Still have questions?

Please get in touch and I'll be happy to discuss the referral process, WorkCover requirements, and how therapy may support your recovery.
