What is Complex Trauma?

Complex trauma refers to repeated or long term experiences that feel overwhelming or unsafe.

This often occurs in situations where there was limited ability to leave or protect yourself.

You might notice

  • Ongoing emotional overwhelm or shutdown
  • Difficulty with boundaries
  • Patterns in relationships that repeat
  • A strong inner critic
  • Feeling stuck in the same cycles

Why this happens

When stress is ongoing, the nervous system adapts in order to cope.

These adaptations can become patterns that continue long after the situation has changed.

How therapy can help

Therapy focuses on both processing past experiences and shifting the patterns that developed around them.

If you recognise these symptoms in yourself, you can contact me  to discuss how trauma-informed therapy may help. I offer face-to-face sessions in Wheelers Hill and Telehealth across Melbourne.

Saturday appointments available.
