Welcome to a safe space

"The meeting of two personalities is like the contact of two chemical substances: if there is any reaction, both are transformed"

About Nenita Batica

Psychologist | EMDR Accredited Practitioner | Supervisor

I have over 15 years of experience supporting adults across a wide range of settings, including alcohol and other drug services, forensic environments, inpatient and outpatient units, family violence services, and the non-profit sector.

My practice is grounded on the belief that we have the innate capacity to heal and connect with the best version of ourselves. At times, this natural process can be disrupted when life experiences exceed our ability to cope.

My role is to create a safe, consistent space where we can explore the barriers that have been getting in the way of your goals. We will draw on the strengths and resources that already exist within you to move toward a life that feels more grounded and aligned with who you want to be.

My Approach

As an EMDRAA Accredited Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Practitioner, I primarily use EMDR, whilst drawing on complementary therapeutic approaches, at a pace guided by your needs.

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Therapy

EMDR is a structured evidence-based therapy, that unfolds over 8 phases. We will explore the negative beliefs that may have stemmed from early experiences, and safely work towards shifting how you see yourself in an adaptive, more positive light. See a short video about EMDR here

"Nothing exists in a vacuum. Reactions that seem irrational are often exactly that. But irrational doesn’t mean that there is no reason for them. It means that the responses come from a part of our brain that is not governed by the rational mind."

Francine Shapiro 2012

Internal Family Systems (IFS)

IFS is a unique psychotherapy approach which recognises that we are made up of many different parts. While we may not necessarily like all the parts that make us who we are, each of these parts play an important role in the way we see the world. IFS aims to resolve the conflicts between these parts, and make way to an integrative, healthy view of the self.

"Today you are you, that is truer than true. There is no one alive who is youer than You."

Dr. Seuss

Schema Therapy (ST)

Schemas are long-standing themes or patterns that shape how we see ourselves, others and the world. They often develop during formative years in childhood, which may have been helpful then. At times, these schemas continue to drive our reactions, even when they are no longer helpful.

ST aims to identify these unhelpful schemas, recognise triggers that activate these patterns, and create long-standing adaptive emotional and behavioural responses.

“Once you can open yourself up to the idea that your defectiveness is not a fact, the healing process can begin to work.”

Jeffrey E. Young in Reinventing Your Life

Acceptance & Commitment Therapy (ACT)

The aim of ACT is to develop psychological flexiblity, that is, shifting our relationship with uncomfortable, sometimes painful thoughts and emotions.

"Between stimulus and response there is a space. In that space is our power to choose our response. In our response lies our growth and our freedom."

Victor Frankl in Man's Search for Meaning

Mindfulness

Mindfulness is the anchor of my therapeutic practice. In noticing the processes, engaging the 5 senses, and connecting with the environment, we stay fully grounded in the midst of an emotional storm.

"Life can be found only in the present moment."
