A gentle starting point

Beginning therapy can feel like a significant step, particularly after difficult or overwhelming experiences.

There is nothing you need to prepare and no need to find the right words beforehand.

This is simply a place to begin, at a pace that feels safe for you.

Your first session

The initial session focuses on safety, understanding, and clarity. There is no pressure and no expectations. You remain in control of what you choose to share.

In this session, we will:

  • Talk about what has brought you to therapy
  • Explore current challenges at a level that feels comfortable
  • Consider what kind of support may be helpful
  • Move at a pace that feels manageable

There is no right or wrong way to begin. You do not need a clear explanation, a diagnosis, or certainty about what you need. Many people start with a sense that something does not feel right, and we work from there together.

A pace that respects you

This is a trauma informed approach where emotional safety and choice come first. Building trust and stability is the priority.

  • You decide what to talk about
  • You can pause or slow down at any time
  • You do not need to share details before you are ready

What you may take from the session

By the end of the first session, you may have:

  • A clearer sense of what you are experiencing
  • An understanding of how therapy may support you
  • A sense of whether this feels like the right fit
  • A possible direction for ongoing support, if you choose to continue

There is no pressure to make any decisions.

If you feel unsure

Uncertainty before a first session is common. It is okay to take your time. You may prefer to begin with a brief conversation to see if it feels comfortable.

Sessions are available:

  • In person in Wheelers Hill, Melbourne
  • Online across Australia

When you are ready

If and when it feels right, you can take the next step in a way that feels comfortable.
