What is Generational Trauma?

Generational trauma refers to patterns of stress, coping, and emotional responses that are passed through families.

This can be shaped by significant events, cultural experiences, or long term stress across generations.

You might notice

  • Patterns in your family that repeat
  • Emotional responses that feel bigger than the situation
  • Difficulty understanding where certain reactions come from
  • A sense of carrying more than your own experiences

Why this matters

Not all trauma starts with you. Some patterns are learned or inherited through family systems.

How therapy can help

Therapy can support you to understand these patterns and begin to respond differently, creating change moving forward

If you recognise these symptoms in yourself, you can book a time to briefly discuss how trauma-informed therapy may help. I offer face-to-face sessions in Wheelers Hill and Telehealth across Melbourne.

Saturday appointments available.
